CIvgene can be complex and confusing, but if you’ve got an hour, I lay out the basics in a simple way. Good way to get started.
‘Success consists of getting up one more time than you fall.’
As the metamind grows and adapts it faces moments of eventual success. Moments where reason is comprised just of the rational mind. Not because there is no risk for the conscience to report, but because it has been successfully rationalized or rationally accommodated. Present risks are understood in total so the metamind is quiet. For some, they want or need to meditate to reach this state. For others meditation need not be a ritual, but simple state of mind.
The conscience suddenly intrudes on your clarity. You may rationalize, ‘What if I do not understand the moral course of action at all?’ It can be terrifying. With the conscience quiet the rational mind is free to explore all the darkness of self serving convenience. Exploring an evil(perfectly selfish) point of view. The conscience comes roaring back with the subconscious recognition, that it’s absence means one thing. As a direct product of the success of rationalization to the point of self actualization, you were briefly thinking like a psychopath. A moment of internal emotional whiplash, where you at your best suddenly became you at your worst.
1. The untethered rational mind explores some new, dark, but personally gratifying future, which poses compounding threats to the self later down the timeline. We’ve recognized a new risk to rationalize. The conscience fires up and reminds us to act like a well adjusted human being. Pointing out dead ends (double down, defect(depart), or die) in our potential plans.
2. If you are not yet a self actualized as a meta-psychopath (I imagine it’s quite rare to fully arrive if possible at all), you may be detecting a layer of protopsychopathy. This is also a common situation. While many foolishly deny it, outsiders program our emotions all the time. Sure as you had parents or guardians, your emotions have been either completely explored, or are are still directing you from once external or alien decision making.
3. I think those are both more easily resolvable, but here is the real risk. That you are seeing the endgame. The outcomes have become final. That no amount of probability calculation can navigate through the problems facing you. This recognition that the three D’s, the psychopaths basket of choices, are all you have left. This is exactly what cognitive dissonance is. Frozen in the fear that your metamind no longer affords you any advantage, so you give up on it.
Number three, cognitive dissonance, is the most neglected and interesting case. The good news is huge. Most likely cognitive dissonance or any persistent failure of the conscience is a false negative. In a way faith(political, religious or other) is a shortcut to recognising this for structurally incomplete reasons. You have actually mistaken the inability to discern risk now from the inability to discern risk later. Of course faith alone can be tested, and can fail you (if it can’t fail it’s not faith but indoctrination or other forms of belief), leaving you in a lurch.
Knowing that the conscience/metamind is a passively driven risk engine hands you the solution. Don’t give up. If your conscience can’t perform the risk calculation, that’s not telling your problems can’t be solved. It’s telling you you need more data. That’s it. Both not giving up, and trying new things has the best chance of showing you the moral, or low risk, way forward. Curiosity doesn’t just serve laziness or amusement, but is the key to a healthy metamind.
If you find your self in the pits of despair, seek new points of view. Socialize. Learn. Build. Invent. Create. And the answers will come. Use faith for rationalization, but not as a crutch or belief against your own personal darkness. If you hide behind ‘faith’ you can become trapped in a vain well of self gratification, devoid of new information, barrelling towards the same three Ds that haunt all that biologically define their success through jealousy. The conscience functions best interacting with all society, even the parts you don’t like. Explore and accept the world for what it is and you will understand how to navigate through it.
‘I was just following my superior’s orders’ – Nuremberg principle IV
Is obedience a virtue? It certainly is treated as such by some. Obedience may bring to mind strict parents or the rank and file of the military. Certainly some good has come from both. It seems to contradict the idea that the human right to fork or to walk away from and split with authority is valid at all. With some exploration of the word and it’s uses for good, it becomes clear that humanty’s understanding of obedience must be a misnomer.
To answer this we need to look at what virtue itself is about. A virtue is personal attribute (transitory or not) that reflects both morality and accomplishment. In other words a person with an accomplishment behind them that deems them worthy of respect (Please see an earlier post for exploration of that word.) Morality is of course some variation of conscionable behavior.
The very concept of obedience falls apart as a virtue. The conscience as defined by civgene (psychopaths as our predecessors) indicates that moral thought is comprised of reason (defined), and the metamind part of reason will always be subconscious. A virtue must include both parts of reason (the hunch and rational thought.) With enough time, your gut will contradict your orders, and unrationalized obedience becomes a vice.
I’m not saying the obedience has no place in civilization. The lions share of humans may be empaths, but we share the world with psychopaths. Psychopaths lash out at a world which rejects their master/slave model. They can be treated well with the right considerations and restrictions, but they will never participate in self contained cooperation. They simply lack the tools.
To share a particular mission with psychopaths we need to revert to their way of thinking, temporally. The oath is the solution to this conundrum. To the psychopath the oath has no subconscious impact, just more master/slave orders to follow, but to the emapth it is ceding one’s personal conscience to a self realized principle. The consequences of disobedience tie directly back to that oath. When orders conflict with oath, the commander has broken the very respect upholding the oath has earned him. He is no longer acting in a virtuous way.
So when an empath follows orders from a parent or a commander, that right to fork is only temporally, voluntarily, ignored. You can be obedient to an open principle, but no human owns your destiny, except you. Your conscience owns immoral orders as if they were your own mistakes. Abusing your conscience in any fashion slowly destroys your understanding of right and wrong. Morally dubious orders program your subconscious with false risks, crippling your abilty to think in a complete way. You become oblivious to danger at all levels. Your temporary submission to achieve the goals of your mission, has made you less capable, which in turn endangers it.
An immoral parent with a gambling addiction may corral you into friends that take money management lightly, a mentor may exploit you sexually as payment for hard to come by experience, and a commander may demand you kill people who pose no violent threat to anyone. Please consider the respect you have, and may one day be afforded by your society. That respect reflects your virtues, including operating under oath, and refusing to operate when that oath is violated.
Specifically on children, they and parents have an unwritten oath. Society demands it, for it’s own good. The parent genuinely emparts their understanding of the world, and the child genuinely incorporates it into their metamind as their starting point. A way to get by until their metamind begins adapting to their own experiences. Forming an understanding of how to invest in themselves and their world without being taken, robbed or crushed in any number of ways. Children are not slaves to be exploited. The legitimate oath is by design, temporary, conditional, and only fully functional when perpetually transitional towards functional adulthood.
Psychopaths only compete and never cooperate. They do not obey moral principles, only hierarchy. We have some distance to travel before they can be identified and are never given authority over data or other human beings. They may recite an oath aloud, but it’s up to you to make sure they follow it. You do yourself, them and humanity as a whole a service when you shun disloyalty to a moral oath. That is what an oath is for. A bridge between two groups of humans who behave as two different sets. Shunning externally simulates the metamind for those without one. Immediate direct consequence is the only way to impart moral principles to those without conscience.
An oath can externally recreate the functionality of a meta-psychopath for a group of otherwise principled humans. A conditional temporary suspension of personal reason to well thought out societal rationalizations. Just obedience is possible if a moral oath is served with integrity. Obedience need not be slavery, but in the absence of moral thought, it surely is.
Someone asked what can be done about some ex-military coworkers who where acting in a psychopathic fashion (competing and not cooperating) and failing in their aggressive technical goals.
True psychopathy is genetic. This will be fact one day I’m certain. Psychopaths have only their rational mind to cope with the world. Most people have both a metamind (conscience) and rational mind and when they use both that is reason. If empath vs psychopath behavior where a venn diagram psychopaths behavior would be completely enclosed inside empaths much larger circle.
Military are almost always empaths. They are almost always proto-psychopaths or meta-psychopaths.
Proto-psychopaths are created. The conscience is trained to essentially get out of the way so the person will act like a dutiful psychopath. (They make great but unstable slaves) The conscience is doing some problem solving but it’s main role is to keep the rational mind on the ‘straight and narrow,’ stabilizing the rational ‘psychopath’ part. This is why some ex-mil types are less creative. All the creativity their brain has to offer is reenforcing loyalty to a service they’ve since retired.
Some soldiers create themselves as meta-psychopaths. Meta-psychopaths also suspend their conscience. The difference is who is in charge of the change, their drill instructor, or themselves. Meta-psychopaths are very much like a guru. So they will be MUCH more effective in the private sector later on. They enjoy the full set of human behavior. They can be ruthless like a psychopath and creative like empath. These are the soldiers that go on to become special ops and accomplished technicians in the service. This is the outcome the military increasingly wants.
Actual genetic psychopaths make terrible soldiers. They dutifully follow orders while watched, but are more interested in promotions and self gratification. They are constantly trying to one up their superiors even when it could cost lives. (The psychopath slave always wants to become the master) When faced with battle/real danger they look for any opportunity to desert as survival is the only (selfish) logical choice. BTW they can make great warriors ah la the Vikings but raping and pillaging is about self gratification, not service, duty and strategic progress of the whole group.
I frequently see proto-psychopath ex-soldiers wrongly accuse meta-psychopath soldiers (or any other non proto-psychopaths) of being psychopaths. Their creative process is seen as an attack on their hierarchical superiors. They simply don’t understand and therefore respect their creative use of their metamind. They see self direction as insubordination. This is part of the cost of intentional proto-psychopathy.
‘what is to be done.’
Ideally you want non psychopathic emapths in your company. So the best thing you can do is avoid creating a psychopathic culture. How? Simple. Psychopaths only compete, so reward cooperation. Yes unfortunately those condescending ‘team building’ things do work, at least for the cooperators.
Avoid hiring psychopaths in the first place. Follow up on all references! If HR doesn’t, fire them. Psychopaths lie constantly (to survive) so they will be caught in little lies. It’s less important if they’ve made some mistakes in their past and WAY more important that they don’t lie about them. Don’t accept blank spots in a resume. They can be anything but blank. ‘I went on a kayaking tour across the country for 6 months’ or ‘I just couldn’t find a job’ or ‘my son had cancer’ ‘I was tired of the daily grind’ is way better than ‘personal matters.’ If they lie to you ever, drop them like they’re hot.
Only hire proto-psychopaths for operational roles. Give any ex-military proto-psychopath a goal with enough authority and vigor and she will say, ‘I will accomplish it.’ Even if the goal is absurdly unobtainable. This behavior is usually not helpful in business. Remember creativity and questioning authority are disreputable to them. They have no social mechanism to say no to ‘orders.’ They are cannon fodder for any lurking psychopaths, who are naturally serving their own ends. They should be easy to pick out in the interview process as a little too eager to please.
There are some advantages to having competitive people in sales positions, and to less of a degree operations. The important characteristic is these jobs solve specific, well understood problems. These are good positions for your proto-psychopaths, but never a psychopath. They will usually sacrifice the companies future for personal gain now. They will probably be caught and fired, but at what total cost.
How about the psychopath that is already there but hidden? Create false golden opportunities and watch who takes them. They are your problem. Psychopaths will only be restrained by their short term rational analysis of risk. They will lie cheat and steal as the opportunities are perceived to present themselves.
Creating a false prize to see who claims it is called a honeypot. Keep in mind the honeypot will need to be very clever to outwit the smartest sociopaths (psychopath limits stage) Hand known information to trusted workers and see if their boss takes credit for it. Create false contacts for industrial espionage. Leave company credit cards (with tight limits) and equipment where employees can ‘find’ them. Offer impossibly hard projects (no money, no market, tight deadlines) with a promotional promise and see who nibbles. Feign illness, retreat to the security room, and watch your next in command as she fills your shoes for a few days.
Companies are moving toward a split model of operations and sales (understood problems) as the functional side and dev-ops or creative work on the other. This is a wise move. A small group of people competing with everyone and everything can destroy a company. Jealousy has a very limited scope of risk analysis. Remember ‘everything’ includes your company’s interests as well. Cooperation isn’t a natural choice for psychopaths, only alliance.
We are all psychopaths underneath our conscience. Since even low EQ/IQ empaths ace the psychopath variations of wants/abilities/limits with the aid of the metamind, and one third of that is (psychopath ‘abilities’ aka ASPD) we will always be capible of violence.
All animals are violent. It’s not personal. It’s survival. Compared to us they are all psychopaths. We project our love, compassion and empathy all around us. People, animals, plants, inanimate objects. Especially if it has a large head to body ratio and big eyes. A non psychopath human (an empath) can flatten any other selfless act in the animal kingdom to a rounding error in pure scale.
When our conscience/metamind determines that someone/something else doesn’t have a conscience, it sets our inner psychopath loose. Violence becomes many times more likely.
Note that a metapsychopath may have no negative reaction to a moment of external ‘no conscience’ realization. It’s because they have been conditioning their psychopathic self to act on behalf of the conscience, but without it’s typical continuous input. No loss of control occurs as the state of logical selfishness is reached, because it has been reconciled with and serves the temporally dormant metamind. The conscience simply steps back the and empath deals with the situation in strictly rational terms.
The metamind can even be the driving force behind violence. For instance violence in the name of a faith. A conscience can normalize the idea that a particular faith is the only valid demonstration of a person having a conscience. Then it lets the inner psychopath loose and screams, strikes, rapes and kills like a Viking raiding party.
That example is why it’s so important to separate faith from cult. Cult thinks it is the only true path, demonstrated by thinking it is above reproach. If you deviate from it, criticize it, or try to leave it, the conscience of it’s members shut off, and it’s members become temporary psychopaths in the face of a heretic. Sooner or later, violence results.
Why does this not occur with the metapsychopath? Because they are in control of the change. Their rational and metamind are resolved. Usually way in advance through inner work as rationalization and emotional self learning.
The cult is not just a faith but an organization. And organization that programs it’s members into protopsychopaths. The protopsychopath has no control over the change. They see, react, and act.
Faith is critical to the conscience, but it can never be allowed to monopolize it. The worst ASPD psychopath can’t hold a candle to the destructive power of a faithful fanatic with a conscience. For individual action, ruthless self sacrifice is unmatched in our world. The check to prevent faith from leading to protopsychopathy is the recognition that we can only grow emotionally through doubt and mistakes. That knowlage is critical to being in control of ones own conscience.
That’s the difference between a religion and a cult. Both are organizations of faith, but only one disables the individuals ability to control their own conscience.
I recently realized a very simple way to describe the difference between a protopsychopath and metapsychopath. Both are when an empath (not a psychopath) suspends their conscience temporally, allowing them to act like a psychopath.
The difference is, who is in control of the change.
A protopsychopath is captured by outside forces. A person or persons uses emotional manipulation to negate the useful warnings of the target’s conscience. Careful control of nearly every experience (it can take an entire childhood or lifetime for example.) can result in a protopsychopath, an empath who not only respects the master/slave model, but lives by it. In the diagram the most likely candidate would be a person with a low EQ and little parental love.
A metapsychopath is an empath in control of their emotions. Not that they don’t have them but that they can temporally suspend them in order to interact with psychopaths and psychopathic societies with minimal personal influence. It is a defense against emotional mind control, and can be a way to initiate and function in a psychopathic alliance. Great empathic leaders must visit and use these powers to varying degrees.
It is important to remember that both states are temporary and induced by a rational intelligence. The conscience is both self healing and anti-fragile. In other words, simply removing a protopsychopath from external influence, can completely break control given enough experiences. Likewise metapsychopaths will fall out of practice if not exposed to psychopathic behaviour for a period of time. This is why empaths with high EQs and a difficult background (possibly post childhood) make great leaders. They are driven to condition themselves against selfish binary behaviour and may seek it out simply for practice with their metapsychopath skills.
The dangers of propaganda and to less of an extent marketing have long been established. But how do they work? Either by rearranging your emotions or generating brand new ones people can change your behavior without your consent. When being blitzed by these techniques you really only have two options. You can either remove yourself from the outside influence, or you can recognize and actively ignore the external messages.
The emotional maps that can be used to manipulate you can be derived from broader societal trends, or can extracted from you personally using psychoanalysis techniques. Scale effects the technique, but not the result. If I can trigger and emotional reaction in you, I can change your mood and to some degree your behavior. Even if you are aware of the attempt and actively trying to stop me.
As mentioned simply removing yourself from the environment is effective. For example turning off the television or more personally shunning a psychopath. Once they can no longer communicate with you, you will not form further emotional connections and they can not interfere with the metamind’s predictive abilities.
But we know that the real world is rarely so simple. You may need to endure many sources of emotional manipulation during any day. Further, being self aware can help you to block emotions, but the very act of blocking intruding emotions can make you angry or depressed. Now upset that you have been toyed with, you may still change your behavior, perhaps drastically, providing a wanted response. This two layer manipulation is insidious, but hardly unstoppable.
Contrary to popular belief, forgiveness is a wholly personal affair. While it may play an important role in your particular faith, it serves the health of your mind directly. Another popular belief is that forgiven is forgotten. It is critical that you separate these two things. Forgiveness is your best method to completely stop external manipulation of your emotions without changing your behavior. Forgetting is opening up yourself to further manipulation attempts by people and organizations that you may have already identified as a psychopath or psychopathic.
Consider forgiving the psychopathic cultures and psychopaths in your life. Not as a benevolent act of compassion, but as an act of self defense. Recognize psychopathic behavior for what it really is, the selfish whims of the mentally limited. Show them pity and you , not them, will be saved from the torment of a distorted conscience
Now for something a little more down to earth.
This is a great video to grasp the basics of psychopathy. Manson clearly lands in the ASPD stage. This includes Narcissistic elements of course. Looks like he never resolved himself to the long game of sociopathy. He is not aware and apparently not interested that Rose is not falling for his emotional trigger saturated scripts. He is clearly very intelligent as the smarter the psychopath the more effective the scripts. Not that it matters for him at this point, facing life in prision give little motivation to cover up who he is.
It’s not surprising if you find this video difficult to watch. Beside ethical indignation at his acts, he is very, very good at lighting off emotional triggers. He is actually trying to program the other viewers, Rose, and you as you watch. If you didn’t notice you are likely very vulnerable to both marketing and propaganda. Your metamind, probably felt in your gut, should be screaming! It is critical that you understand and recognise that technique if you ever expect to know yourself.
If you’ve seen inception, your metamind should feel something like this.
You’ll only get to experience clear first hand sight of these scripts if you improve your technique enough that a psychopath is forced to switch scripts several times. This is what Manson is doing throughout with Rose. Constantly changing the topic so he can use his whole salvo of emotionally charged words to try and implant new ideas in your or Rose’s head.
If you were to transcribe and then rewrite Mansons words with less common synonyms, you would notice a few things.
While the scripts are coherent to themselves, the larger thread they follow is almost totally incoherent. He is clearly just pulling the next script out of the ‘comfey’ or ‘scared’ or ‘remorseful’ pile, depending on what he wants you to feel. Of course a sociopath who is successfully integrated into the corporate world (for example) will have much longer much more complex scripts.
In a more abstract sense the rambling choice of scripts is a commentary on the empathic mind. He so much as says so. He is pointing out how irrational we are, and how we made ourselves vulnerable to people like him. He clearly is not aware of others in this sense. That’s why he isn’t a sociopath. He has no idea we have a metamind that specializes in connecting unlike things by compound emotion. From his perspective the origin of empathic ideas is totally opaque. Just a random number generator.
This video in part is the inspiration for the metamind model. We could sit there all day and attach meanings to his ramblings, he’s counting on that, but his assortment of scripts are are what they are to him. Just buckets full of scripts. His lone insight through his sole lens is that we are insane from his perspective.
